1.0 ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Completed S/C 4974 (The Installation of Flight Software 9.0)

The Flight Software Version 9.0 was successfully installed in the
DF-224 computer on the spacecraft. The installation was monitored
both in the OSS and MOR. (See Note 2.4)

1.2 Completed S/C VSAFE (Safemode recovery of the HST Science Instruments
- HSP )

The High Speed Photometer Safemode recovery was successful.

1.3 Completed S/C XSAFE (Safemode recovery of the HST Science Instruments
- FOC )

The Faint Object Camera Safemode recovery was successful.

1.4 Completed S/C YSAFE (Safemode recovery of the HST Science Instruments
- FOS )

The Faint Object Spectrograph Safemode recovery was successful.

Flight Software
---------------

DF-224 Flight Software Version 9.0 software was successfully
installed in the spacecraft as planned on June 9. The verification
tests went well, and no major problems were encountered. This was
the first time a complete new DF-224 version software was installed
on the spacecraft since launch. SMS-161 was initiated at 161/0800Z.

Major Items included in the software were:

* fixed for over 140 software patches installed since launch
* improved software maintainability
* freed over 700 memory locations
* compressed Format T fit into Format A's memory allocation for
Servicing Mission
* Added new minor frame to Format T
* modified software to be configured to run in three memory units
* added Magnetic Field Model which will handle possible MSS failure
* addition of KING software for installation of 9.0 software
