Daily Status Report as of 087/0000Z

1.0 OBSERVATIONS SCHEDULED AND ACCOMPLISHED:

1.1 Completed WF/PC-2 9239 (Absolute Proper Motions of Nearby Dwarf
Spheroidal Galaxies-Cycle 10)

The WF/PC-2 was used to measure precise absolute proper motions for
four dwarf spheroidal satellites of the Milky Way using
spectroscopically-confirmed background QSOs to define a zero- velocity
reference frame. The proposal completed with no reported problems.

1.2 Completed Fifteen Sets of NICMOS/1/2/3 8945 (Cooling System Monitoring)

The Near Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Camera (NIC1, NIC2 and
NIC3 was used 1}.to measure NICMOS detector performance during the
cool-down and steady state operation of the NCS. 2}. to demonstrate
stability {+/-0.1K} of the NICMOS detector temperature at the optimal
science operating temperature. and 3}.to demonstrate repeatability {+/-0.1
K} of NICMOS detector temperature following changes from the optimal
science operating temperature. No problems were encountered.

1.3 Completed Seven Sets of ACS/WFC/HRC 8947 (Weekly Test)

The Advanced Camera for Surveys (WFC and HRC) was used to perform
basic tests to monitor, the read noise, the development of hot pixels and
test for any source of noise in ACS CCD detectors. This program will be
executed at least once a day for the entire lifetime of ACS. There were no
problems reported.

1.4 Completed Two Sets of WF/PC-2 8950 (SM3B Cool Down, Contamination
Monitor, and Focus Check)

The WF/PC-2 was used to monitor the planned cooldown to -88C,
followed by UV monitors, focus checks, as well as decons and associated
monitors. No problems were noted.

1.5 Completed Two Sets of STIS/CCD 8963 (CCD Bias)

The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (CCD) was used to measure
CCD read noise from multiple bias frames obtained in common science modes:
amplifier D, gains 1 and 4 electrons/DN, and binning factors of 1x1, 1x2,
2x1, and 2x2. The read noise measurements before and after NCC turn-on are
then compared, and standard calibration reference files for use in pipeline
reduction of SMOV3B data are constructed. The proposal had no reported
problems.

1.6 Completed STIS/CCD 8187 (STIS Imaging of the Deep NICMOS Parallel
Fields: Building on the NICMOS Legacy)

The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (CCD) was used to make
observations of field #1237 that was previously observed using deep images
from the NICMOS camera. The STIS images will yield visual morphologies to
magnitudes of 24.5 and quantitative measures of image structure to 26.5 or
fainter in two orbits. The observations were completed as planned, and no
problems were reported.

1.7 Completed Two Sets of STIS/CCD 8964 (CCD Darks)

The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (CCD) was used to obtain
dark frames twice daily, as in a corresponding calibration
program. Standard calibration reference darks are constructed and hot
pixel lists are updated for use in pipeline reduction of SMOV3B data. All
observations completed without incident.

1.8 Completed STIS/CCD 8927 (CTE Effect on EWs of Absorbtion Lines in
Spectra of Galaxies)

The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (CCD) was used to measure
CTI in the spectroscopic image of an extended source with absorption lines
for application to science observations of galaxies. The effects of CTI on
absorption line profiles will be determined. There were no reported problems..

1.9 Completed STIS/CCD 9051 (Identifying Damped Lyman-alpha Galaxies at
z~1)

The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (CCD) was used to look for
damped Lyman-alpha absorption systems that contain the bulk of the neutral
gas in the Universe in the redshift range z = 0.5 - 5, yet the nature of
the galaxies responsible for the absorption is not well understood. Only
recently have observers found more than a handful of damped absorbers at
redshifts z < 1.5. Using the FIRST Bright Quasar Survey {FBQS}, with over
a 1000 quasars, the proposers have undertaken a survey to build a complete
picture of he nature of the galaxies responsible for damped Lyman-alpha
absorption systems at z~1 and to double the sample size at this
redshift. No problems were encountered.

2.3 Operations Notes:

An EPS charging optimization scheme was performed during the
interval 086/1335Z to 086/1411Z, per an operations request. The VTFE curve
was increased by 100 mV and the -A SPA was disconnected from Battery #5 via
hardware and flight software commands in order to prevent any potential
battery heat-up and to help balance the battery load-share. Additionally,
the Battery #6 CCC K2 level was changed from Level 3 to Level 2 so that the
K62 relay will not cycle each orbit and the charge cut-off will be based on
the VTFE.

An operations note was used to adjust the EPS K62 limit at 086/1340Z.

Using ROP SR-1A, the SSR-1 EDAC error counter was cleared at 086/1855Z.

Per ROP SR-4A, an SSR engineering record was commanded at 087/0023Z

A TTR was generated when the wrong TDRS was scheduled at
087/013630Z. An SSR engineering record was scheduled to cover the event
(autonomous engineering record was commanded for the period 087/0057Z to
087/0243Z in accordance with ROP SR-8A) and no data was lost.

3.0 SIGNIFICANT FORTHCOMING EVENTS:

Continuation of Servicing Mission Orbital Verification and the
gradual resumption of normal science observations and calibrations.
