The ExInEd program honors the 25th annual celebration of the moment when humans first walked on the Moon with the publication of a new Electronic PictureBook authored by Dr. Roger D. Launius of NASAуs History Office. Apollo 11 at Twenty-Five surveys the Apollo program from May 1961, with its announcement by President John F. Kennedy, to December 1972, when the program ended with the flight of Apollo 17. An insiderуs look at the struggles within NASA to accomplish the lunar landing in the period specified by President Kennedy, Apollo 11 at Twenty-Five recalls the problems encountered along the way and the exhilaration at the programуs ultimate success. For those who remember Apollo, the story is a poignant one. For those too young to remember, it is an exciting adventure of discovery. For all, the achievement of Apollo gives us cause to be proud of what we accomplished as a nation and challenges us to look forward to the possibilities of new programs to explore space.
