Dear Prof. Hodge,

We are resubmitting electronically, via ftp, the manuscript of our paper
"Deep CCD Photometry of the Globular Cluster NGC 4833 in the BVI bands",
by G. Alcaino et al. (No. 990027). We are grateful to the referee for
valueable remarks and suggestions, they enabled us, in our opinion,
to improve the paper significantly. Below please find our responses
to the remarks.

1. Age determination. This part of the paper caused most serious
referee's objections. We have completely revised our age estimates,
taking into account references suggested by the referee. We have arrived
at a somewhat lower age estimate; moreover, we find a problem with
representing the subgiant branch with any of the Bergbusch & VandenBerg
isochrones and accordingly formulate our conclusions with greater reserve.

2. Data reduction. We agree that the text of the original version of the
paper caused misunderstanding, especially concerning the number of stars
with good measurements in all three colors. We have tried to clarify the
situation. As to the referee's scepticism comcerning differential
reddening, we have completely revised our presentation of this problem
and hope the new version, with a differential reddening map and a CMD
reduced to a unified reddening value, will be found more convincing.

3. General criticisms. Unfortunately we did not have the manuscript with
referee's notation mentioned in the report. We have revealed and corrected
several misprints in the manuscript. We have presented the results
concerning photometric errors in the tabular form, as suggested. As for the
referee's suggestions of restructuring paragraphs, the structure of
sections has some internal meaning for us, and we would prefer not to
change it drastically; however, the text has been seriously changed,
hopefully to the better.
