Description:
We present a computer-readable version of seven Name-Lists of Variable
Stars (Nos.67-73) published in the system introduced during the
preparation of the 4th GCVS edition. For printed versions of these
Name-Lists see IBVS No.2681,1985; No.3058,1987; No.3323,1989;
No.3530,1990; No.3840,1993; No.4140,1995; No.4471,1997.

There are 3506 stars in the Name-Lists Nos.67-73 (file "nl.dat"). The
variables are arranged in the order of their names inside
constellations. One star of the 67th Name-List (V1810 Cyg=No.67247)
turned out to be non-existing, it has been excluded from the table.
The identification table (file "ident.dat") and the list of references
(file "ref.dat") follow. The total number of designated variable stars
has now reached 31918. In the new computer-readable version 1.1 of the
GCVS, vol. IV (...IV\iv.dat), we now present identifications also for
name-list stars (excepting the 73rd Name-List).

We make no special attempt to present the material in a completely
homogeneous form. There happened minor style evolution from the 67th
to the 73rd Name-List: particularly, the 67th Name-List normally
refers in the identification table only to the catalogues cited in the
papers mentioned in the references in the files "nl.dat" and
"ident.dat", and to the 70th Name-List it became a common practice to
give more catalogue identifications. From the Name-List No.70, there
is no completeness in identifications with the old catalogues of
suspected variables (CSV), in many cases we consider the NSV
identification sufficient; from the 73rd Name-List we have changed the
standard accuracy, to 1 second of arc. We also do not try to
update the information of the older Name-Lists, we only put the
information together and correct known mistakes.

The corrections to the Name-Lists have been taken into account. It is
necessary to reproduce here the remarks from forewords of the printed
Name-Lists:
Name-List No.69. In the case of the variable stars in the open cluster
NGC 3766 (V843-V849 Cen), there is some ambiguity in their
identification with the HD,CoD,CPD catalogues. In particular, we do
not agree with the HD catalogue identification of HD 100856 with
CPD-60 3102 and consider V843 Cen=CPD-60 3102 to be identical with HDE
306794; HD 100856=CPD-60 3112.
Name-List No.70. The 70th Name-List contains a number of variables in
Taurus discovered by J. Kelemen [70113]. Unfortunately the discovery
announcement contains some mistakes in co-ordinates and in
identifications with other lists. These mistakes have been corrected
according to [70114].
Name-List No.73. For V725 and V726 Cas, we could not improve the
published rough coordinates because finding charts are not available.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note on RAh, RAm, RAs, DE-, DEd, DEm, DEs:
the position is not listed when the variable is equivalent to
another catalogued variable ('=' in column VarType, byte 57)
Note on u_DEs:
the real coordinates accuracy uses the symbols:
(:) means right ascensions accurate to one second of time and
declinations accurate to one tenth of an arcminute;
(*) means declinations accurate to one arcminute.
(') means right ascensions accurate to one minute of time and
declinations accurate to one arcminute.
Note on magMax, magMin: The star's magnitude in minimum and maximum
brightness. Instead of the magnitude in minimum, the star's amplitude
of variation may be indicated (in brackets). For stars with
photoelectric photometry, two decimals after the decimal point are
presented (or sometimes, in the case of amplitudes, three decimals);
one decimal is given in the case of photographic or visual magnitudes,
no decimals follow the decimal point in the cases of very rough
magnitude estimates.
Note on n_magMax, n_magMin: Code for alternate photometric system.
Field is non-blank if magMin is a magnitude or amplitude given in a
system other than that indicated by magCode. The designations u,v,b,y
refer to the Stroemgren system. An asterisk in the corresponding
position for V2027 Cyg means the amplitude measured in white light.
Note on magCode: the photometric system in which magMin and magMax are
reported (see also Note on n_magMax, n_magMin). The main codes are P
(photographic magnitudes) and V (visual, photovisual, or Johnson's V).
Several stars from the 68th Name-List have in these positions "1."
designating the 1.04 micrometer band of the system introduced by
G.W.Lockwood. The designations u,v,b,y refer to the Stroemgren system.
The symbols "Ic" and "Rc" mean magnitudes in Cousins' I system.
"g" designates magnitudes in the system of Thuan and Gunn;
"T" stands for broad-band Tycho magnitudes formed from B and V
measurements; "r" are red magnitudes not tied to a particular system.
Note on VarType: type of variability (see file ...III\vartype.txt).
The system of variable star classification corresponds to the GCVS4,
with six additions (ZZO, AM, R, BE, LBV, BLBOO) introduced in the
Name-Lists 67- 72 and in the GCVS vol.V.
Note on Ref2: If no chart is available for the variable, but the star
is contained in one of the Durchmusterung catalogs or the Hubble Space
Telescope Guide Star Catalog, the corresponding abbreviation (BD, CPD,
CoD, GSC) is given.
Note on NL: the Name-List number.
Printed versions of every Name-List have their own numbering systems
for variables and references. In order not to change numbers and to
make it possible to distinguish among Name-Lists, we use combined star
numbers of the form aabbb, where aa is the number of the Name-List,
and bbb is the star number in the Name-List No.aa; for example,
UX Tri=No.69015= star No.015 in the Name-List No.69. The same
numbering is used for references, but in the numbers of references in
the file nl.dat we omit the "aa" positions.

Note on GCVS, NL:
This file consists of lines not longer than 80 symbols. Information
for a star may occupy one line or more. If a line contains the
continuation for a star, its first 15 bytes are repeated.
Note on ID: all identifications needed to find the star in the papers
with the first (or independent) announcement of the discovery of its
variability. References to these papers (see file "ref.dat") are given
in square brackets after the corresponding identification. The name of
the discoverer accompanies the reference only in the case of its being
different from the name of the author(s) of the paper referred to. For
the stars having NSV catalogue numbers, the references to discovery
papers already taken into account in the NSV catalogue are not always
given. Different identifications of the same star are separated with
equality signs. In some cases, short remarks are given after the full
stop following the last identification.

Note on Text:
In the present version we attempted to give Latin transliterations of
Russian-language names of astronomical periodicals and books. We did
not try to unificate the Latin spelling of names with Cyrillic (or
other) original forms, but simply tried to reproduce the Latin
transcriptions in the publications referred to. Of course this may
lead to some confusion, hopefully minor. If a paper enters lists of
references of several Name-Lists, it appears several times in the
present version.
