Homogenization of astronomical parameters
Introduction
LEDA has been the first Extragalactic Database. It was created in 1983
at Lyon Observatory. Since this time, the database has been
continuously
updated. The main idea is to
collect raw measurements (coming directly
from observations) and to archive them. Mean homogenized data are then
calculated in the spirit of the famous series of Bright Galaxy
Catalogues (RC1, RC2, RC3) by de Vaucouleurs and co-workers.
In fact, RC3 was created using the LEDA database.

Note also that the SQL request can as well be submitted with POST or
GET
methods (the latter may be particularly useful to write scripts, for
example using wget).
Calculation of homogenized astrophysical parameters.
For each parameter the method of the calculation (or the definition) is
given in the Third Reference Catalogue (de Vaucouleurs et al., 1991)
and/or in Paturel et al. (1997) and/or in some additional references given
below. The "actual uncertainty" of parameters is defined
in Paturel et al. (1997).
