SIC003AF, SIC502AF and STC006AF

The SITe SIC and STC families of fiber optic CCD imagers are designed specifically for electronic imaging applications including medical, X-ray, and inspection. Both families can use a tapered coupler or window as a substitute for a lens. This results in high transmission efficiency, high resolution, and low distortion. The SIC family of imagers are fiber optic window versions of SITe's most popular CCDs including the SIC003A, a 1024x1024 element CCD with MPP, and the SIC502A, a 512x512 element CCD. The STC006A is a new 1080x314 element rectangular CCD.

Device Description

FIBER OPTIC CCD FAMILY

A fiber optic face plate is a coherent array of millions of optical fiber waveguides. Each of these fibers has a core glass coated by a cladding glass having a lower refractive index, so the incident light will be totally internally reflected. Visual images are transmitted from the input surface to the output surface with high resolution. The SIC series fiber optic assemblies are manufactured by coupling the output of the fiber optic window to the CCD using an index matching coupling compound. The assembly has been fully environmentally qualified and can withstand thermal cycling between -45°C and +40°C at a temperature change rate of 5°C per minute or less . The materials used in manufacture have been optimized to minimize moirИ patterns, blemishes and fixed pattern noise while maintaining high optical throughput and image contrast. Some degradation of the dark defect blemish specification of a normal bare imager due to Fiber Optic blemishes can be expected. It should never exceed the particular device blemish specification by more than 20% of the non fiber optic device measurement. Typical faceplate geometry of the input surface is 6µm fibers with the line blemish (chicken wire) aligned to 45є off the edge of the imager. The numerical aperture (NA) of the input surface is 1.0.
