Atlas of sky overlay maps for the Palomar Sky Syrvey
second edition
by R. S. Dixon , M. R. Gearhart, C. Schmidtke
publ. by OSURO, 1985
Background
The series of astronomical photograghs know as the National Geigraphic
Society-Palomar Observatory Sky Atlas (PSS) has became one of the most
widely osed basic references in radio astronomy. Ose of the PSS, for
optical identification of objects didcovered at other than optical
wavelengths (radio, X-rays, infrared, etc.) has became so widespread
that the term "optical identification" is almost synonymous with
inspecting the PSS at the position of the object. The PSS has also
been used as source material for numerous surveys of objects of almost
every type.

History of the overlay maps
The staff of the OSURO has been doing optical identification of radio
sources using the PSS for many years.

In the early seventies, we began preparation of the Master List of
Non-Stellar Objects, a neccesary prelude to the ovetlay map project.
This was recently published by Dixon and Sonneborg (1980).
This reference work is an amalgation of all 270 previously published
catalogs of non-stellar objects of all types, including galaxiesclusters
of galaxies and others. This reference work is commonly referred to by
the acronym MOL (Master Optical List, to distinguish from Master List
of Radio Sources also prepared in OSURO.
In catalog there are:
