It is strange for me to hear so many complains about low level of Nauka i Zhizn' and other journals of that kind. Boris Shtern has told that he did not read it for years already. So I suggest him to start it again before making any rough conclusions. On my own, I brows nearly each issue of Nauka i Zhizn', Priroda, Khimiya i Zhizn', and Nauka v Rossii. The two last are printed nicely on a good paper with a lot of color pictures, figures etc similar to the mentioned Scientific America. And all of them contain interesting things to read for a non-specialist and even, sometimes, for a specialist as well. Surely most of the publications are not so deep as scientific per-reviewed papers (that I can say about papers, which concern my field of knowledge, and probably every one could say in the similar way). It is almost unnecessary, however. On my taste these journals provide interesting information for broad audience and that is exactly what it was set up for.
PS: Sorry for my English.
