FIRST GERMAN COLONIES IN MOSCOW.


    There are some names in Moscow, which show, that there were a lot of foreigners in Moscow. They were artisans, dialers, priestes and translators.

German’s sloboda is the name, which tells us about germans colonies in Moscow in 1578. It was located behind the Jauza river, between the Chechora river and Kukuy stream.

Germans sloboda was named Kukuy and Lefortovo in XIX century in honor of France Lefort, who lived there. There were many foreigners in German’s sloboda, who didn’t know russian language.


Moscovits know Lefortovo, which is names in honor France Lefort. He was born in 1656 in Nuneba in the family of a seller.

In 1674 he left for Holland and then came to Moscow, where he lived in German sloboda. He married the capitan’s daughter Elizabeth.

Lefort was a secretary of datch diplomats, capitan of Kiev garnizon.

F. Lefort was a friend of Peter I and his brother – in – arms. Peter loved european culture and Lefort influenced Peter’s reforms.

Peter built house for Lefort near the Jauza river where died in 12.02.1699.

Peter wanted to make a monument Lefort, but he could not.
