NASA Integrated Services Network
Acceptable Usage Policy
The NASA Integrated Services Network's mission is to provide a computer communications network designed to support NASA Science flight mission, discipline research programs, and collaborating scientists' affiliate research institutes.
The following Acceptable Usage Statement, along with official NASA policy on Automated Information Security and relevant U.S. federal laws, forms the basic tenets of the NASA Integrated Services Network Security Program:
SUMMARY:
- The NASA Integrated Services Network supports all NASA science flight missions, discipline research programs, and collaborating scientists at NASA Centers and elsewhere.
- The NASA Integrated Services Network is not to be used for private gain or p rof it.
SPECIFIC:
- Use of the NASA Integrated Services Network must be in support of official NASA programs; all user requests for NASA Integrated Services Network connectivity must be validated and supported by cognizant NASA Science Discipline Chiefs.
- Use of the NASA Integrated Services Network to support coordination and administrative execution of NASA research grants is permissible.
- Use of the NASA Integrated Services Network to support NASA research, related training, and associated technical activities at non-profit institutions of research and education is acceptable.
- Use of the NASA Integrated Services Network for commercial or intellectual gain by for-profit organizations is not acceptable, unless those organizations are using the NASA Integrated Services Network to satisfy specific NASA contract or grant requirements.
- Use of the NASA Integrated Services Network for research or education at for-prof it institutions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure consistency with NASA programs; lack of program approval will result in disconnection.
- Use of the NASA Integrated Services Network to gain unauthorized use of resources attached to the NASA Integrated Services Network may result in disconnection and legal prosecution. The NASA Integrated Services Network will make every attempt to implement precautions to safeguard against unauthorized use of NASA computers, databases, and other attached federal resources.
- Use of the NASA Integrated Services Network for the introduction of worms, viruses, Trojans, or other software which maliciously interferes with normal NASA Integrated Services Network operations is unlawful.
