Supernova 2006dd and 2006mr in NGC 1316

Supernova 2006dd and 2006mr in NGC 1316

This page is devoted to information on supernovae 2006dd and 2006mr in NGC 1316.   Basic information on this SN, including the last reported brightness, on this Supernova can be found on the main page.  Information on the original web pages for many of these images can be found on the updates and links web pages.

sn06dd_i.jpg 2006dd was discovered by Berto Monard (South Africa).   This one is a type Ia found very young in a somewhat southern galaxy.   It started out as a type II, but an actual spectrum showed as a type Ia.   The other two supernovae discovered in this galaxy were also of type Ia, were also in the Mag 12.0 range.   Note that this one is fairly close to the nucleus of he host galaxy.   I have the original FITS for all of Berto's images if they are needed.   We have a DSS Photometry reference image made by Odd Trondal.  Icon generated from the discovery image.   This supernova is in the Constellation Fornax.

sn06mr_i.jpg Berto wasn't done with this galaxy. In November of 2006 he discovered another supernova, 2006mr.   This one is deeply reddened, and is most likely on the far side of the galaxy.   Icon generated from the discovery image.

The following is a list of images of this SN, in chronological order. Click on the name in the "Image Credit" column to see the image. Times and dates are in UT unless otherwise noted. If you know of any others, please tell me!
