Supernova 1999gq in NGC 4523

Supernova 1999gq in NGC 4523

This page is devoted to information on Supernova 1999gq in NGC 4523 Basic information on this SN, including the last reported brightness, on this Supernova can be found on the main supernova page. Information on the original web pages for many of these images can be found on the Supernova links web page.

sn99gq.gif Normally I wait until I have more images of an SN to start a sub-page, however the data on this one is mounting up quickly. This SN is much brighter than the other two SN which LOSS reported in IAUC 7337, however, this is a morning object, not an evening one, thus there aren't as many pictures of it. NGC 4523 at Mag 14.4 is a very diffuse Virgo cluster galaxy in Coma. The SN at it's brightest is almost as bright as it is, and this is a Type II, which tend to be dim. Amateur Mark Armstrong (UK) independantly discovered this SN.
