Supernova 1999cp in NGC 5468

Supernova 1999cp in NGC 5468

This page is devoted to information on Supernova 1999cp in NGC 5468 Basic information on this SN, including the last reported brightness, on this Supernova can be found on the main supernova page. Information on the original web pages for many of these images can be found on the Supernova links web page.

1999cp is another LOSS discovery. This one snuk up on us. It was originally announced in IAUC 7205 along with 1999co in an anonymous galaxy, and the host galaxy was unnamed in the "subject" line. Also, both SN were roughly the same brightness. Thus most people who didn't read through the entire IAUC thought that this SN was just another dim one in an anonymous galaxy. This SN looks like it's peaking out at mag 14.0 making it the third brightest so far in 1999.

Web pages dedicated to this SN.

  • AUDE has a 1999cp page in French [Translate]
  • M1 Supernova Search has a 1999cp page.
  • Seiichi Yoshida's Latest Pictures of Novae and Supernovae page has a 1999cp sub page.
