Mark your calendars to reserve Tuesday, December 13 for a sensational astronomy meeting!
The Amateur Astronomers Association of Princeton is presenting astronomer and author Kim Weaver for a presentation titled: "New Eyes on the Universe: Observing Beyond Hubble with the Chandra and Spitzer Space Telescopes," and will highlight violent processes and dust-enshrouded objects revealed only by searching for signatures in x-ray and infrared light.
Dr. Weaver is the program scientist for the Spitzer Space Telescope at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland. She is currently affiliated with Johns Hopkins University as an adjunct associate professor. In 1996, she won a NASA Presidential Early Career Award to pursue research in extragalactic astronomy. In addition to conducting scientific research, Weaver serves as the deputy project scientist for a future NASA mission, Constellation-X, which is part of NASA's Beyond Einstein program.
She will be signing copies of her acclaimed new book, The Violent Universe: Joyrides Through The X-Ray Cosmos. The book will be autographed and on sale at the lecture theatre in Peyton Hall, courtesy of the Princeton University Bookstore.
Dr. Weaver will be joining members of the AAAP for our pre-meeting dinner (6:00 PM) at The Annex Restaurant, in downtown Princeton. As always, AAAP members and their guests are encouraged to attend these informal get togethers. It's a great way to meet your fellow club astronomers and to chat with the night's guest speaker. Just prior to Kim Weaver's lecture, the AAAP is proud to have new member Rob Teeter, Jr. make a short presentation describing one of his custom Dob-mounted truss Newtonians. Rob is the owner of Teeter's Telescopes, a company which designs, builds and sells custom scopes nationwide. Rob will bring one of his creations to the meeting, and we plan to do some observing after the meeting.
