Call For Abstracts

We welcome abstract submissions for oral presentations at the workshop, “Concept Development for an Upper Atmospheric Research Facility at the Arecibo Magnetic Conjugate Point in Argentina” to take place in April 17 - 19, 2006 , at the Arecibo Observatory, Puerto Rico . The presentations should provide the basis for a final report which will describe the agreement from those attending the workshop on the following three main points:

1. There is a *scientific* need for an ionospheric observatory at the Arecibo Geomagnetic Conjugate Point. We have to show the wealth of scientific opportunities that such a facility would provide.

2. There is a feasible technical approach to satisfying the scientific need. The basis is an AMISR 'face', optical instruments, GPS instruments, etc.

3. There is a feasible international collaboration model that could provide leadership for a project to develop the facility. The presentations will focus on these goals and will be distributed in three different sections of the workshop agenda

Part I: Science opportunities with a conjugate facility. Submissions are welcome for presentations which focus on what the community would like to do with a conjugate facility and how such facility would extend their presently on-going research.

Part II: Technical requirements for a conjugate facility. This section of the meeting includes talks on the instruments that are required at the facility to satisfy the science requirements discussed in Part I of the meeting.

Part III: Talks on how the project can be organized as an international partnership. How are universities involved? How are governments and national institutions involved? What funding sources might be accessible to us?

The 3 parts are not of equal length. A tentative time allocation for these sections is:

Part I~50% meeting time
Part II~35% meeting time
Part III~15% of the meeting time.

Abstract submission deadline: March 25th, 2006

Submit abstracts by e-mail identifying the presenting author to Diego Janches ( diego@cora.nwra.com )
