The Fifth Annual Undergraduate ALFALFA Team Workshop
The Fifth Annual Undergraduate ALFALFA Team Workshop brought 31 faculty and students to Arecibo Observatory from 14 institutions across the U.S.
The workshop is designed to educate students about the ALFALFA (Arecibo Legacy Fast ALFA) survey and Arecibo Observatory, to give them opportunities to interact with their peers and ALFALFA and Arecibo Observatory scientists and to present their research within the project, and to encourage them to conduct their own investigations using the Arecibo Radio Telescope.
The Undergraduate ALFALFA Team is an NSF-funded consortium of 18 U.S. institutions that provides undergraduate research opportunities within the ALFALFA project. The grant is headed by PIs Rebecca Koopmann (Union College), Sarah Higdon (Georgia Southern University), and Tom Balonek (Colgate University) who work closely with ALFALFA PIs Riccardo Giovanelli and Martha Haynes at Cornell University. €аFunding for the Undergraduate ALFALFA TEam is provided by NSF grants AST-0724918, AST-0724918, AST-0725267, AST-0725380, AST-0902211 and AST-0903394. The ALFALFA Legacy survey program is supported by NSF grants AST-0607007 and AST-1107390 and grants from the Brinson Foundation.
