Proposal Title: Continued highresolution scintillation observations of two pulsars: B0834+06
and B1133+16
ABSTRACT:
Understanding, characterizing, and correcting for interstellar time delay is vital to the success of Pulsar Timing
Array (PTA) e#orts, including that of the NANOGrav collaboration for which the Arecibo Observatory is a central
instrument. We propose to continue our detailed study of the scintillation properties of two nearby
(nonmillisecond) pulsars: PSR B0834+06 and PSR B1133+16. We will observe them at 327 MHz in order to see
maximum delay details and continue to hone our analysis and time delay mitigation techniques. We will use the
Mock spectrometers with high frequency resolution in order to be sensitive to extreme delay events. At least two
Oberlin College undergraduates will travel to the Observatory and participate in datataking and analysis. This is
part of our NSF/PIRE funded project to detect gravitational waves with high precision timing of millisecond
pulsars.
