Proposal Title: Probing the orbital structure of the micron-size dust environment at 1 AU using
the Arecibo Observatory 430 MHz dual-beam radar.
ABSTRACT:
We propose to observe and study, utilizing the 430 MHz Arecibo dual-beam radar, the micrometeor orbital
structure of the micron size dust environment at 1 AU. An on-going micrometeor observing proposal (T1565) using
the dual-beam capabilities have shown a qualitative di erence in the micrometeor radial topocentric velocity
distribution when looking in three di erent ecliptic latitudes. The main goal of the proposed observations is to
measure in detail this structure in the micrometeor velocity distribution. As an additional result of these
observations we will study the orbital properties hoping to identify sporadic micrometeor sources as well as obtain
the annual in ux of interstellar objects.
