Proposal Title: Regular Monitoring of Calibration Parameters for the AO Receivers
ABSTRACT:
During September 2000, a considerable collective e ort was spearheaded by Carl Heiles towards characterizing the
instrumental polarization for all available Arecibo receivers. Previously, during the rst two post-upgrade years,
calibration work had been performed at various times by Phil Perillat, Mike Davis, Mike Nolan, Ellen Howell, Carl
Heiles and members of the radio astronomy group. This has generated the current estimates for the Azimuth and
Zenith-angle dependencies of Gain and Tsys, and has produced beam maps, beam eфciencies, and polarization
characteristics for a number of the receivers. Here, we describe a plan for, a) making regular checks of the derived
polarization and other calibration parameters, b) enhancing the list of acceptable polarization calibrators over
4>RA>16 hr, which was not covered by the Sept 2000 observations, and c) completing characterization of 3
remaining receivers.
