Proposal Title: HI Properties of a Large, Complete Sample of Optically-selected Galaxies in
Nearby Voids
ABSTRACT:
We propose to obtain HI observations for a new sample of galaxies within prominent nearby voids (4500  cz 
10500 km s 1 ) dened by the Center for Astrophysics Redshift Survey. Whereas previous HI studies of void
galaxies have suered from modest samples and heterogeneous selection criteria, this study seeks to obtain HI
uxes and widths for a complete, uniformly-catalogued sample of 115 optically-selected galaxies in the lowest
density environments. Specically, our proposed targets are taken from Grogin and Geller (1999) and represent a
complete spatial sampling of the 50h 1 Mpc void centered on  15h00m, ф 33 ф , and cz6750 km/s, plus a
complete density sampling of regions in all three voids targeted in Grogin and Geller (1999) which are at densities
that are less than half the galaxian mean. When combined with our previous optical imaging and spectroscopy of
this sample, these HI data will provide a more thorough understanding of the eects of large-scale environment on
galaxy evolution.
