High-precision timing of two recycled pulsars

We request 18 hours of observing time to continue regular timing observations of two recycled pulsars spanning a 12-month baseline. Timing observations of the relativistic binary pulsar J1829+2456 have so far determined a minimum companion mass of 1.22 Msun which makes it likely that the companion is a neutron star. Continued timing of J1829+2456 will allow the geometry of the system to b e determined by measuring the relativistic time-dilation and gravitational redshift parameter, gamma. Measurements of the prop er motion of b oth J1829+2456 and J1944+0907 will allow their intrinsic Pdots to b e determined. This will provide constraints on the birth spin p erio d and the kick pro duced during the sup ernova.
