Total Time Requested: 90 Hours
Proposal Title: S-Band Radar Observations of Titan and Iapetus in 2000
ABSTRACT:
Time is requested for S-Band radar observations of the satellites Titan and Iapetus to be made near opposition of
the Saturn system in November 2000. Observations of Titan in 1999 provided the rst 12.6 cm detection of Titan
and allowed estimates of its mean cross section, circular polarization ratio and scattering properties. The proposed
observations are aimed at measuring these properties as a function of longitude. No observations of Iapetus were
made in 1999 due to transmitter problems. The proposed 2000 observations are aimed at measuring the cross
section and polarization ratio to investigate Iapetus' average scattering properties and, if possible, to look for
di erences between the leading and trailing hemispheres.
