Radar Imaging of Asteroid 1999 RQ36

The internal structure of asteroids is in general difficult to determine. There are a numb er of spherical or spheroidal asteroids, many in binary systems, that are presumed to b e "rubble piles". We prop ose observations of the spheroidal near-Earth asteroid 1999 RQ36 to determine its shap e, and infer its internal strength and co efficient of friction from the observed flattening. This ob ject is also a candidate for detection of the Yarkovsky effect based on these radar observations and further observations in 2011.
