Exploring Pulsars Discovered by PALFA

We will make pulse timing observations of eighteen pulsars discovered in surveys using the Arecib o Line Feed Array. These observations will determine the spin-down rates of the pulsars, from which their ages and magnetic field strengths can b e derived; they will measure the pulsar p ositions with sub-arcsecond resolution, revealing asso ciations b etween the pulsars and sup ernova remnants, X-ray and gamma-ray sources, and other astrophysical sources; and they will allow detection of binary companions in orbit with any of the pulsars. Timing observations are a crucial part of the study of these pulsars and are absolutely necessary to accomplish the goals of the pulsar ALFA surveys.
