We propose a simultaneous Arecibo incoherent scatter radar (ISR) and an array of multi-constellation global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers experiment. We propose to map the ionosphere vertical profiles using the Arecibo ISR. Multi-constellation GNSS receivers generate pseudorange and carrier phase measurements for open source signals broadcasted by GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and Beidou satellites. The recent growth in GNSS leads to an abundance of navigation satellites. Advanced algorithms utilizing these freely available signals to characterize the ionosphere can lead to low cost distributed ionosphere sensors. The ob jective of this experiment is to (1) utilize the large number of multi-constellation GNSS signals available to obtain high spatial resolution ionosphere total electron content (TEC) estimation, and (2) evaluate the estimation algorithm performance against the results obtained from simultaneous ISR measurements of the ionosphere electron density profiles.
