Dynamical and Physical Characterization of an ob ject in an Earth Horseshoe

Orbit
ABSTRACT:
This is a resubmission of R1784 which was rated A in a previous cycle. No data were obtained due to transmitter failure. We request 14 hours of Arecib o Planetary Radar time to elucidate the origin of a 120-m diameter ob ject that follows a horsesho e orbit ab out Earth. Radar astrometry will b e used to pin down the orbital history of the ob ject over several centuries. The radar-derived shap e, spin, and surface prop erties will help constrain a plausible source region, which may very well b e the Earth-Mo on system. This ob ject may b e a go o d candidate for detecting the evolution of asteroid spin states due to thermal reemission of sunlight (YORP effect).
