Proposal Title: CH, CO, and E(B-V) Observations of MBM 40
ABSTRACT:
The gas to dust ratio is a critical quantity in understanding the origin and development of molecular clouds. The
CO line at 115 GHz and the CH line at 3335 MHz are both excellent tracers of molecular hydrogen. The color
excess, E(B-V), is an excellent tracer of the dust column density. A study of these three quantities in two
translucent molecular clouds (MBM 16 and MBM 40) has revealed two di erent sets of relationships between the
quantities. In order to understand these di erences, we propose to extend our CH observations of MBM 40 that
were conducted at Arecibo last season.
