Proposal Title: Absorption by the Tidal HI Filaments associated with NGC 4631
ABSTRACT:
We request 19 hours of the Arecibo Telescope to conduct measurements of absorption by Hi tidal laments in the
nearby and interacting NGC 4631 galaxy group. These observations will contribute to a larger project focussed on
understanding the dynamics (i.e. velocity, morphology and phase structure) of features such as those generated by
tidal out ows and jet-driven plumes from a number of interacting systems. The NGC 4631 group is the perfect
subject for these kind of studies; it being an edge-on, close and well-studied, Hi-rich interacting system. It clearly
exhibits many out ow laments which are attributed to dierent energetic processes.
