| Transmitter | AN/FPS-117 frequency agile radar |
| Rf frequencies | see freq table |
| Peak power | 25.766 Kw (min power 24.75 Kw). |
| Pulse (Usecs) | short range (SR): 51.2 long range (LR): 409.6 |
| Ipps (usecs) | Because of the frequency and vertical hopping, it's hard
to nail down the ipps. My current guesses are: Short Range: [1342,1415,1494,1674] Long Range:[2500 to 2800] |
| Bandwidth (Mhz) | SR: 1.25 LR: .625 |
| Freq modes | One channel (two frequencies separated by 15 Mhz) is
transmitted on each ipp. It can Freq hop between 1 of 18 channels on an ipp by ipp basis. They are authorized to use 11 of these 18 channels. Typically runs in mode A (chan 3,4) or mode B (chan 6,7) |
| Rotation period | Nominally 12 seconds. Measured to by 12.019 seconds.
It rotates clockwise north thru east. |
| Beam width | 2.2 degrees az 2.2 degrees vertical |
| Vertical hopping | vertically hops 18 to 22 beams. 10 of these beams are
"doppler beams" (52usecs?). I think they hop 0 to 20 degrees vertically (although i'm not sure). |
| Blanking | The radar is blanked for +/- 45 degrees of azimuth centered on the arecibo direction (az=257). The radar also blanks for about 20 degrees when it points at the san juan airport (az=110) |
| Sidelobes | There are sidelobes at 40,60, and 80 degrees (decreasing in strength). |
| Location of radar | On the north shore of PR 6.2 km west of old san juan. |
| Misc | Down to 10 degree blanking, the strongest signals we receive are from plane echos rather than the radar sidelobes. We can also see planes circling the san juan airport. |
