The azimuth position to maximize
the dome signal building 2 was measured on 23jan13. The
setup was:
- Mount a 1400 Mhz helical antenna from john harmon's old
office on the 4th floor of building 2.
- Open the window point the antenna perpendicular to the
vertical wall.
- transmit -33dbm from the synthesizer (into the 6 foot
cable and then antenna).
- Setup lbw in the dome with linear polarizations:
- Set the interim correlator to 1 Mhz bw, 1024 channels, 9
level sampling
- Move the azimuth between 290 and 360 degrees while taking
data for each of the following zenith angles:
- za=19 deg
- za=17 deg
- za = 15 deg
The plots show
the signal
strength vs az,za for the spectral channel containing
the tone (after hanning smoothing) (.ps) (

- Top frame: za=19 deg
- Middle frame: za=17deg
- bottom frame: za=15 deg
- the * show the data samples
- The dashed colored lines show the azimth for the peaks at
za= 19,17, and 15 degrees.
- The vertical scale is linear. 1 = the power in a single
channel.
Summary:
- The peak azimuths are:
- za=19, az=329.19
- za=17, az=337.47
- za=15, az=320.19
- The peak strength drops from 2000 for za=19 to 500 for
za=15
- The peak strength at a single za can change by 33 db in 3
degrees of azimuth
