A signal was transmitted from the
control room patio. The dome was placed at za=17, and the
azimuth was moved to find the maximum signal in the 327
receiver. The setup was:
- Mount a short whip antenna (from our antenna set box) at
the center of the control room patio.
- a small 3 foot high table was placed at the center
of the control room patio (where the concrete scribe
marks cross).
- The whip was attached to the side of the table and stuck
about 6 inches above the top of the table (pointing
vertically).
- A 327 Mhz signal from a synthesizer locked to the station
clock was used to drive the whip.
- The synth was set to -40dbm amplitude. The
measured amplitude at the end of the long cable was -51dbm
(the cable went from the control room out to the patio).
- The dome was placed at za=17 degrees.
- The azimuth was moved from az=350 to az=320 at .2 deg/sec
- The 327 receiver was centered at 317 Mhz.
- The interim correlator took data:
- 1 second dumps, 12.5Mhz bw, 1024 channels, hanning
smoothing-> 12.Khz*2 = 24 Khz channel width.
The
azimuth dependence of
the transmitted birdie was plotted (.ps) (
.pdf):
- The two polarizations were averaged.
- the median of +/-10 channels about the birdie channel was
divided into each tone sample and then 1 was removed (to
make the units Tsys).
- The az position was interpolated to the center each 1
second data dump.
- The adjacent channels were averaged and divided into the
tone to make the units Tsys.
Summary:
- for za=17 degrees the azimuth peak was 333.26 deg
- transmitting -51dbm into the whip gave a signal of 1.7
Tsys units in the 327 receiver.
