I can see my house from here! In the picture below, we are looking North towards Lisboa (Lisbon). This is the "old" bridge, 25 de Abril, which connects Lisbon to the south bank of the Tejo (Tagus) river.
Below is a distant view of this bridge from the millenary St. George's Castle. We are looking west, towards the Atlantic Ocean.

Below is a view of Saint George's Castle from The Elevator. In the foreground are some recent buildings and streets ("Baixa"); these were built towards the end of the 18th century, after the catastrophic earthquake in 1755. This zone is still a commercial hub.
From the same Elevator, looking North, we see the Rossio square.
Going south from Rossio: Rua Augusta
Passing that arch, you reach Praca do Comercio. The buildings around this square were (and to some extent, still are) the traditional seat of our government.
Going westwards about 7 km, you see Padrao dos Descobrimentos, built in 1943 for trhe celebrations of the 800 years of Portuguese independence. This also celebrates the times when the Portuguese navigators (lead by Prince Henry the Navigator, the guy with the funny hat at the prow) discovered most of the world, and established a global empire.
From the top of Padrao dos Descobrimentos, you get a good view of Empire Square. The impressive old building is Mosteiro (monastery) dos Jeronimos.
Nearby is Torre de Belem, a 16th century fortress meant to destroy enemy ships.
In the Eastern part of the City, things look decidedly different! This whole part is being rebuilt.
The bridge you see in the background in the picture above is more than 17 km long. It is the new Vasco da Gama Bridge, seen in more detail below.
