About me

About me

My Name is Paulo Freire, and I was born in October 1970 in Lisbon, Portugal.

I am an astronomer and work at the Arecibo Observatory, in Puerto Rico. In that quality, I am also part of the scientific staff of Cornell University.
I live in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico, not far from the Arecibo Observatory.

This is how I looked in August 2007. I am at the banquet provided by the "40 Years of Pulsars" conference, which happened at McGill University, in Montreal, Canada. The banquet was at club 737, on top of the tallest building in Montreal, Centre Villa Maria. Picture taken by Laura Kasian.

And this is how I looked when I was a kid. Pretty much the same as now.

My favorite hobbies are reading, listening to music (although some people don't call the stuff I hear music at all), building polyhedra, traveling and hiking.

I absolutely love the Arctic. I would love to live in Greenland and be an Arctic explorer.

Another of my hobbies is scuba diving, but I don't dive that much anymore. Above, you can see me diving off the coast of mona island, August 2003.

I love traveling! Being an astronomer, I get to travel a lot, perhaps more than I would normally like.

I starred in "Densa, Pequena", a movie by Beatriz Santiago shown as part of the Puerto Rico 2004 art biannual.
