TRAVEL INFO

Passport and visa:
As Puerto Rico is part of the USA visas are not required for travel from the mainland USA. Also citizens of the 29 countries who participate in US visa waiver program can enter the US without a visa for up to 90 days. To see whether you are eligible go to: http://www.travel.state.gov/visa;visitors.html. People coming from other countries will be required to apply for a visa. A letter of invitation will be provided by the school in these circumstances. Please contact us as soon as possible. In any case, do bring your passport as immigration controls are common at the San Juan airport.

Arriving in Puerto Rico:
The only way to travel to Puerto Rico is by airplane - with almost all flights coming into San Juan's main airport - the Luis Munoz International Airport. The observatory will provide a shuttle service to transport people from the airport to their accommodation and the observatory. Schedule of shuttle service can be found here. However, it is also very easy to rent a car at the airport, if you would prefer.

LODGING

The objective is to hold the entire workshop at the Arecibo Observatory as to reduce coast and make it inexpensive for the attendees. On-site visiting scientist quarters (VSQ) are available by advance registration and are handled on a first come, first served basis. VSQ reservation and billing is handled by Edith Alvarez (eidth@naic.edu). Money transactions for the VSQ Room and other expenses are handled by Carmen Torres (ctorres@naic.edu). Charges in US $ ( per person ) are:

** Rates are 30% lower than the average single room cost at a local hotel There are a few units that have kitchen and refrigerator. If you would like one of this units it is essential that you reserve the room as early as possible. Also, in order to have everyone staying at the Observatory, participants will be expected to share rooms. If there is a particular roommate you may wish to share the room with, please make sure to tell Edith Alvarez. Since rooms on site are limited, those people who attend with an accompanying guest or do not wish sharing room might have to stay in a hotel. Travelling from and to the hotel will not be provided by the workshop.
