I-GALFA Policies
Acknowledgement text
All papers using I-GALFA data should use the following ackowledgement text (in
LaTeX format):
The Inner Galaxy ALFA
(I-GALFA\footnote{http://www.naic.edu/~igalfa}) survey data are part of the
Galactic ALFA (GALFA) H I project observed with the
Arecibo L-band Feed Array (ALFA) on the 305-meter William E. Gordon Telescope.
Arecibo Observatory is a U.S. National Science Foundation facility operated
under sequential Cooperative Agreements with Cornell University and a
Consortium of SRI International, the Universities Space Research Association
(USRA), and Universidad Metropolitana of Puerto Rico.
External data users
Investigators outside the I-GALFA team who wish to make use of the data before
it becomes publicly available have their access subject to the approval of the
I-GALFA membership, and their publications are subject to the rules of
co-authorship given below.
Whether the data are public or not, we request that the acknowledgement text be
included in any paper making use of I-GALFA data.
Co-authorship
- The I-GALFA ``data team'' of observers + data processors consists of:
- Steven J. Gibson (Co-PI)
- Bon-Chul Koo (Co-PI)
- Kevin A. Douglas
- Carl E. Heiles
- Ji-hyun Kang
- Eric J. Korpela
- Jonathan H. Newton
- Geumsook Park
- Joshua E. G. Peek
- The first science paper that any individual
writes on any topic using I-GALFA data should include all data team
members, unless they choose to withdraw their names because they feel
they didn't contribute. This rule applies each time a new PI writes his
or her first I-GALFA paper, regardless of whether the PI is an I-GALFA
survey member or not.
- Data team co-Is are not required on second or later papers by the
same individual using I-GALFA data. This is true regardless of
whether the later paper is on the same topic as the first paper.
- I-GALFA survey members, whether on the data team or not, are free
to join any declared science project or paper and become co-Is if
they can demonstrably contribute to the project's scientific effort
in ways other than observation or ordinary data processing (i.e.
special processing for a particular purpose should be recognized).
Changes
The above policies can be changed with the approval of the I-GALFA science team
membership.
