Abstract | ||
We have observed CO J=1-0 and J=2-1 emission in a cloud known to contain HI Self Absorption (HISA) (Gibson et al. 2000) in Perseus (l~= 1°, b ~= 139°) in order to determine the molecular gas fraction and the evolutionary state of the cloud. In the transition from an atomic to a molecular cloud, it is possible that the cloud may evolve to the point where it contains HI and CI, but not CO or other molecular species (Hartman et al. 2001). We present J=2-1 and J=1-0 transitions from the Caltech Submillimeter Observatory and the Five College Radio Astronomy Observatory (respectively). We model our results with Large Velocity Gradient models to determine the temperature, density and column density of the region. We find kinetic temperatures around 20K, densities on the order of 103cm-3 and column densities around 1016cm-2.
