rise and Set Times at AO
Computing LST Rise and Set Times

The program "srcTimes" (written by Phil Perillat and available on most AO computers) computes the LST rise, transit and set times at  Arecibo for either a single source or for a list of sources. The default input for the program are the equatorial coordinates in J2000 and the output is: Right_Ascension Declination Rising_Time Transit_Time and Setting_Time.

Options for the program are

Note: The rise, set time depends on the maximum zenith angle the
feed can go to. For the dome that is 19.69 and for the carriage house it is
19.99. By default srcTimes uses 19.69. If you wanted to know the rise/set
times for the carriage house you could say
srcTimes -z 19.99
and it would compute the rise, set times for the carriage house.

Interactively the program is called via srcTimes or srcTimes -options then press enter, after that enter the coordinates. To exit type ctrl-d.
Some examples:

srcTimes
161341.1 341247.9 (hhmmss.s ddmmss.s in J2000)
and the output would be
16:13:41.1 34:12:47.9 15:21:19 16:13:45 17:06:11
(RA Dec Rise_Time Transit_Time Set_Time)
continue entering coordinates if desired or hit ctrl-d to exit.

srcTimes -t
161341.1 341247.9 (hhmmss.s ddmmss.s)
16:13:41.1 34:12:47.9 15:21:19 17:06:11
(RA Dec Rise_Time Set_Time)

srcTimes -wt
name 16 13 41.1 34 12 47.9 (srcName hh mm ss.s dd mm ss.s)
name 16:13:41.1 34:12:47.9 15:21:19 17:06:11
(srcName RA Dec Rise_Time Set_Time)

For a list of sources, the program is called with
srcTimes (-options) < inputfile , where the data in the inputfile could be:
161341.1 341247.9
110000 121212.1
the output would then be:
16:13:41.1 34:12:47.9 15:21:19 16:13:45 17:06:11
11:00:00.0 12:12:12.1 09:42:30 11:00:07 12:17:44

You can also send the output data to a file with
srcTimes (-options) < inputfile > outputfile
or if using the program interactively
srcTimes (-options) > outputfile
hhmmss.s ddmmss.s
ctrl-d (only after ctrl-d the data is written in the outputfile).
