- NEWS: on 1998jun21 Kiriaki Xilouris and Don Backer, with minutes remaining
prior to source setting at Arecibo, detected 1937+21 at 2380 MHz with
ABPP at 56-MHz total bandwidth and 3 minute integration.
.
- OLDNEWS: On 1997dec08 Kiriaki Xilouris, Andrea Somer, and Don Backer (with
help from Phil Perillat and Jon Hagen to remove OH filter used for
VSOP observation) observed PSR J1713+07 at 1440 MHz using the ABPP
at 56-MHz bandwidth, half maximum as set by DM and RF. A 3-minute
average displays sample result ; 97dec08.
- ABPP: Coherent Arecibo-Berkeley Pulsar
Processor; FOR OBSERVING INSTRUCTIONS USING THE GUI CLICK
HERE 2000, May 26.
The system has 32 channels formed via 4
analog baseband mixers followed by 8-way division digitally in DFBs.
Each channel is coherently dedispersed over up to 1024 Nyquist samples
by complex convolution in DBs. Monitor, Control and Data Acquisition
of average pulse profiles is done with
ABPP pentium remotely controlled
via observer SUN workstation. Further description of the Berkeley Pulsar
Processors may be found
here.
- STARTUP: This README is also
in observer:dtusr/dbacker and contains brief summary of startup
commands when logging into observer workstation.
- DFB: Digital Filter Board in coherent
and incoherent ABPP; see Backer et al. 1997 PASP, 109, 61.
- DB: Dedisperser Board in coherent
ABPP.
- LEVELING of power at MF outputs
requires a file of detector readings for 0.0-0.5 dBm
(\design\mf.cal). This note tells how to acquire the calibration
data (mf.cal) used by the level command that sets attenuators in
the Mixer/Filter units. Both coherent and incoherent ABPP units have
independent Mixer/Filters and each need accurate mf.cal files; 97dec10.
- CALIBRATION of ABPP
data is done by running a square wave pulsed cal at 25 Hz with
50% duty cycle. The software recovers the system temperature
in units of the cal, and therefore in Kelvins when correct
cal value is used.
- HELP.ENV is a note on BPP environment
variables on the PC with an important point about files and
directories; 97dec14

wide band front ends at Arecibo.
