Very Large Telescope Interferometer
VLTI Spectro-Imager
VLTI Spectro-Imager (VSI) is a concept for a second-generation instrument for VLTI. VSI will interfere and spectrally disperse the light from up to 6 telescopes, in order to generate model-independent images in many spectral channels simulaneously.
VSI is currently the subject of a Phase A study, performed by a European consortium led by Laboratoire d’Astrophysique de l’Observatoire de Grenoble. The Cavendish optical interferometry group are members of the consortium, contributing mostly to the studies of the VSI internal fringe tracker and to the definition of the science cases.
