First Announcement
MCCT SKADS Workshop: Deep Field Imaging with the Square Kilometre Array 25 29 August 2008, Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge Purpose and format of workshop: The aim of the EU Marie Curie Conferences and Training Courses (MCCT) programme is to promote, discuss and disseminate SKA and SKADS ideas to young researchers. The programme should provide the next generation of European astronomers with basic and advanced scientific and technology knowledge, thereby securing a high-level role of European radio astronomy for the future. The programme consists of training courses, schools, and astronomical as well as technical workshops. This is the second MCCT SKADS astronomical workshop and will focus on Deep field imaging with the SKA as well as other future instruments. The scientific programme will be structured around the key science of the SKA and the problems and possible solutions to achieving the very high dynamic range needed to fully exploit the sensitivity of the SKA. The topics that will be covered include: · · · · · · Probing the dark ages Galaxy evolution and cosmology The origin of cosmic magnetism Testing theories of gravity The cradle of life Challenges for reducing deep imaging observations

The workshop programme will include a series of lectures over the week as well as an excursion to the Mullard Radio Astronomy Observatory (MRAO) at Lord's bridge. Participants are strongly encouraged to give oral/poster presentations. Pre-registration and funding: The school will fully support participants from eligible countries under the MCCT SKADS programme within FP6. For each participant the cost of accommodation and basic subsistence will be covered (6 nights), plus a contribution for travel sufficient for low cost flying. Participants will not be reimbursed for any additional night(s). Participants will also be required to pay a participation fee of ё120 refunded afterwards to those who are eligible. Countries eligible for funding are: EU: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom Associated States: Turkey, Iceland, Israel, Lichtenstein, Norway and Switzerland
