Scope

This ICD defines the space envelope that is available to the beam relay pipe as it passes over the metrology table and up to but not including the connection to the delay line pipe. It does not specifically address any other areas or interfaces but refers to adjacent ICDs and their requirements which may have some impact.

Introduction

The interface between the metrology system and the beam relay pipes defines an envelope of space which the pipe or its fittings may occupy without interfering with the metrology components. The beam relay pipes are situated above the returned science beam and partially between the metrology beam expander block. This dictates a U-shaped zone in the vicinity of the metrology beam assembly, as depicted in Figure 1, through which the beam relay pipe is allowed to pass. The full space envelope available for each beam relay pipe is detailed in the diagrams presented in the appendix.

Requirements
1. Access for adjustment or complete removal of all or part of the metrology beam expander block which carries the beam expander/compressor and the mirrors or mirror mounts attached to it. 2. Clear light-path for the science beam and metrology beams associated with the delay line and also the metrology beam runs associated with other delay lines. 3. Simple and accessible connection to the delay line flange to which it attaches. 4. No connection of the beam relay pipes to the metrology table is permitted.

The beam relay pipe must pass above the metrology table components such that it provides for the following:

10 Design
The space envelope for each individual beam relay pipe is identical and is based on the following design considerations: The U-shaped space envelope extends forwards from the metrology beam expander block to the flange fitting for the delay line end-plate interface so that the metrology beam is unobstructed and access to the delay line pipe end-plate is maximised. A diagram showing the end view of the space envelope is shown in Figure 2 and a side view is shown in Figure 3. The interface to the delay line is detailed in RD1. The U-shaped space envelope extends rearwards from the metrology beam expander block towards the science beam compressors for at least the remaining width of the metrology table to maintain access to the rear of the metrology layout. More information is contained in RD4. The U-shaped space envelope extends sideways to meet the adjacent space envelope(s). Clearance in the region of the metrology beam expander block are chosen so as to allow it to be adjusted or removed without the need to remove the beam relay pipe. The clearance between the lowest part of the pipe and the beam expander block is 1.5mm. This is sufficient to accommodate a ±0.25mm deviation in metrology table height. The individual beam expanders/compressors are removed by loosening the clamp arms and withdrawing the tube forwards, i.e. towards the delay line pipe. The whole metrology beam assembly may be removed by unbolting it from the metrology table and sliding it forward until it is clear of the table and then lowered until clear of the beam relay pipe.

Two with seen main dimension diagrams show the extent of the allowable space envelope for the beam relay pipe respect to the beam centreline and in the vicinity of the metrology table. The end-on view is as from the associated delay line pipe and the side view is as seen from the North, i.e. from the BCA.
