Abstract:

APACHE96 is a new experiment devoted to investigate the Cosmic Microwave Background anisotropies at small angular scales. Main goal of this experiment is to obtain a map of a circular strip of the sky around the SCP. Observations will take advantage of the exceptional dryness and stability of the atmosphere on the high Antarctic Plateau, at Dome C. The first run of observations was performed in December 96 -- January 97 at the Italian-French site, Concordia, at Dome C (Antarctica). The main features of APACHE96 are summarized below, along with some preliminary considerations on site quality obtained from the first mission.
