SKA production design with Cambridge Consultants Ltd
A very successful collaboration has come together between the Cavendish and Cambridge Consultants Ltd, CCL, to take an early prototype antenna design тАУ which worked as a good antenna, but not very good mechanically тАУ into the basis of a mass production design.
Imaginatively the revised antenna uses the minimum possible material for the elements by using wire forming тАУ a very cheap and accessible process, especially for development. The work produced a complete system, tuned for a low cost manufacturing process and maintained and even enhanced the performance of the original concept.
This collaboration has demonstrated the effectiveness of working with talented industrial partners. We will certainly continue the development to a full SKA ready system with industrial collaborators.
