Notes on Funding
Funding for Graduate Students October 2016 entry
PhD students whose parents are normally resident in the UK may be eligible for Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) studentships allocated to the Astrophysics Group; we usually have around 3-4 such studentships on offer each year.
EU Nationals may also be eligible for STFC fees-only awards, and in certain circumstances full awards. Details of this and other information can be found at the STFC Postgraduate Studentships Rules and Regulations web-page.
Overseas students without private funding should consult the Board of Graduate Studies web pages for details of possible alternative sources of funding.
All students should also be aware of the Isaac Newton Studentship which is for the furtherance of advanced study and research in astronomy and astronomical physics (especially gravitational astronomy), both theoretical and observational. This includes the development of instrumentation and work on any branch of physical optics that has a direct bearing on astronomy or astronomical techniques. Candidates applying for admission to the Astrophysics Group who are eligible will be considered for the Isaac Newton Studentship. No separate application is required.
