Second announcement

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to make a second announcement of the workshop on simulations for ALMA, which will run from lunchtime on Monday 8th September to lunchtime on Wednesday 10th September.

Besides the formal presentations there will be time for discussion and possibly demonstration of simulators. A draft schedule of presentations will be published toward the end of this month.

Call for abstracts - Deadline 25th June

Dear Colleagues,

We intend to prepare a detailed program for the ALMA Simulations workshop before the summer holiday season. In order to allow us to efficiently do this, we would like to ask that participants that wish to give a presentation at the conference send us a title and an abstract by 25th June. If we do not receive an abstract, we cannot guarantee a presentation slot.

Please send the title of your talk and the abstract as plain text to <almasim@mrao.cam.ac.uk>.

We expect that the standard format for the presentations would be 30 minute talks + 10 minute discussions, so please plan accordingly. It may be possible to arrange double slots for key presentations.

Once again, since the time for the meeting is constrained, we would like to encourage everybody to send their abstract in by the deadline (25th June) to be sure of getting a speaking slot.

First announcement

We will hold a small workshop at IRAM, Grenoble in September 2008 on the topic of simulations of ALMA imaging. The goals are:

1. To bring together the radio astronomy community with expertise in simulations of ALMA data to share experiences, ideas and code
2. To illustrate the power of ALMA in a small number of scientific fields through the presentation of simulations of ALMA science targets
3. To assess how simulations can be used to optimise the performance of ALMA once it is operational, by, for example, suggesting the optimal calibration strategies and observing modes

We will start on 8th September and are expecting for the meeting to run over 1.5 to 2.5 days depending on interest. We anticipate an attendance of 20-35 people.

The workshop has some financial support from Radionet, and limited support for participants may be possible on request. If you would like to apply for RadioNote funding, further information is available on this page.
