RATAN-600 as a Multibeam Radio Telescope
for CMBA Observations
V.Khaikin et al.
The Special Astrophysical Observatory of RAS, Russia
Multibeam mode seems to be an unavoidable solution for the ex-
isting and the next generation re ector radio telescopes where
high sensitive(or high speed) mapping is the main goal. In some
observation modes RATAN-600 aberrationless focal zone may be
signi cant enough to locate a feed array consisting of 500-3500
receiver elements. O ered focal array architecture [1] and signi -
cant progress in LNA MMIC technologies give us a chance to fully
realize this important RATAN-600 radio telescope advantage. It
will give us new possibilities to study CMBA at all sub-degree
scales with high integrated sensitivity, polarization and in the
wide eld of view. SZ e ect with high bright temperature sen-
sitivity and resolution may be studied eфciently as well. It was
shown by Pulkovo group, that only with very big re ector atmo-
spheric problems may be successfully solved and sensitivity of the
ground based CMBA observations will be equivalent to the spaced
based ones [2]. In multibeam mode aperture averaging e ect and
dual(multi) beam ltration will be especially e ective as residual
atmospheric uctuations in neighbouring dual beams will be cor-
related. Polarizational RATAN-600 characteristics in multibeam
mode and results of testing of the rst 8-element MMIC focal
array prototype at 26-30 GHz are given.
