"Stellar abundances in dwarf galaxies"

Deviations in chemical abundances that are found amongst the Galactic field stars and dwarf galaxies suggest a rich diversity of conditions in the early Universe and in events thereafter. High resolution spectroscopy for many RGB stars in dwarf galaxies over a range of masses show how each has had a unique chemical evolution. While these stars do not clearly resemble those in the Galaxy, we can use them to study variations in the physical processes of galaxy assembly and evolution. Early results in the search for metal-poor stars in the Galactic Centre are also providing a fresh approach to studying galaxy formation scenarios.
