I am a Professor at the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) at The Australian National University. The RSAA is based in Australia's capital city, Canberra, on the beautiful Mt Stromlo. I study the structure and evolution of gas and magnetic fields in our own Milky Way and the nearby Magellanic System. My research group uses radio telescopes, including the Australia Telescope Compact Array, Parkes Radio telescope and Green Bank telescope. Now we're getting ready for the Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) and the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) itself. I co-lead the Galactic ASKAP survey, GASKAP, and the Polarisation survey, POSSUM. I have roles in SKA science planning, including membership on two SKA Science working groups (HI and The Galaxy), the SKA Science and Engineering Advisory Committee, Australia New Zealand SKA Coordination Committee (ANZSCC) and ANZSCC's Science Advisory Committee.

I originally hail from the United States of America. I completed my undergraduate degree in Physics at Oberlin College in Oberlin, OH USA and my PhD in Astrophysics at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN USA. I moved to Australia in 2001 to take up a Bolton Post-doctoral Fellowship at CSIRO's Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF). I spent 13 years at CSIRO holding various roles, including OCE Science Leader and Head of National Facility Science for the ATNF. I started at RSAA in early 2015.
