I am a Research Fellow at the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics of the Australian National University, which I joined in May 2009. My current work focusses on using the Wide Field Spectrograph WiFeS at the ANU 2.3m telescope for studying active galaxies. I am interested in the co-evolution of active galactic nuclei (AGN) and their host galaxies in terms of fuelling and feedback processes as well as in the role of AGN in galaxy evolution. My areas of expertise are optical and near-infrared imaging, spectroscopy, and integral field spectroscopy as well as numerical multi-particle simulations of galaxy mergers.

After receiving my PhD from the University of Cologne (Germany) in 2005 I spent four years as an ESO Fellow in Chile, sharing my time between research work and functional tasks in the Science Operations Department of the La Silla Observatory. At La Silla I worked as a support astronomer at the NTT (New Technology Telescope) and as an instrument scientist of the optical imager SuSI2 (Superb Seeing Imager 2) and the near-infrared imager and spectrograph SofI (Son of ISAAC).
